Heart Problems and Outdoor Activities

Me and my mom

It's not easy to do outdoor recreation activities when you have a heart problem, but I've managed to do some. I've been doing walks, although they have been pretty short, they've been fun and are only getting better now that fall is here.

This weekend we hiked/walked the Bald Rock Trail on Mt. Cheaha. It was the first hike I've done in a long time. We went really slow, and it's all level, so I didn't get too out of breath and had no chest pain.

As long as you take it easy, please don't give up on favorite pasttimes becasue of health problems unless you absolutely have to! It's not worth it.

Great idea to get outside! Another outdoor winter activity the whole family would enjoy is maple sugaring. It is simple and rewarding. Visit www.tapmytrees.com for all the information you need to get started. There is nothing better than homemade maple syrup on a stack of pancakes!

Have you considered a guided walking or cycling holiday? Here in the Uk we sell ones for Hadrian's wall which go easy but get such a great response from people like yourself. It must be really difficult to get going- and makes me think about those times I just 'cant be bothered' to go to the gym - it is a blessing to be able to.
The website is www.goactivities.co.uk if you want to take a look or have plans to visit. :-) Elaine xxx

That sounds nice, Elaine. I'll have to look and see if there's anything like that close to me.
